The Dunhill comes to St Andrews once a year, and seemingly bad weather ALWAYS comes with it! Today gale force winds pounded their way across the links creating problems for setting up the courses, in fact as I am writing this, the competition committee may be deciding to postpone or even cancel the days play.
My job during the Dunhill is to oversee the daily works to the practice tee on the Jubilee's 1st and 18th holes, the practice putting green, and the practice short game area (18th hole of the New). I have 6 guys sweeping up divots, cutting areas, changing holes, and maintenance on bunkers. We have to be there and completed in about an hour, just as the first golf arrives to start the day.
We also have a composite course which comprises holes 3-7 Jubilee, 10,13,11 and 9 on the New, followed by 8-16 on the Jub. we have to do this because most of the holes on the New run parallel to the Old and are shut down for the week, and holes 1, and 18 on the Jub are used for the driving range.
