Beautiful Autumnal morning, just perfect for complteing the Dunhill Links tournament. The preparations on the practice tee went well, and the putting green was stimping at 9ft 9in. After today, the putting green will be closed for 6 months and we will carry out some coring/seeding and feeding of it tomorrow.
The composite course for the New and the Jubilee is still being used for today. Tomorrow we will have the job of reinstating the two courses.
We also took advantage of the extra day closure to feed the New course greens and surrounds with their Autumn/Winter fertiliser. We use Scotts Invigorator at 10g/sqm in 2 directions.

Dunhill Links - Sunday
Yesterdays play was cancelled due to the very strong winds. The gales also caused havoc with the New and Jubilee bunkers which have all been made unplayable with the sand moving away from the middle of the bunkers and piling up at the edges. It will take a large squad of guys 3 hours to bring them back into play on Monday.
The wind has also blown sand from the nearby beach and given my 8th green on the Jubilee a lovely topdressing. This happens every year to this green, and may be a reason for the high concentration of fescue on this surface.
The construction job to the 12th tee on the Jubilee has not fared so well.....3 inches of sand has blown off the tee top and ended up on the 12th bronze and ladies tees.

Dunhill - Saturday.
The Dunhill comes to St Andrews once a year, and seemingly bad weather ALWAYS comes with it! Today gale force winds pounded their way across the links creating problems for setting up the courses, in fact as I am writing this, the competition committee may be deciding to postpone or even cancel the days play.
My job during the Dunhill is to oversee the daily works to the practice tee on the Jubilee's 1st and 18th holes, the practice putting green, and the practice short game area (18th hole of the New). I have 6 guys sweeping up divots, cutting areas, changing holes, and maintenance on bunkers. We have to be there and completed in about an hour, just as the first golf arrives to start the day.
We also have a composite course which comprises holes 3-7 Jubilee, 10,13,11 and 9 on the New, followed by 8-16 on the Jub. we have to do this because most of the holes on the New run parallel to the Old and are shut down for the week, and holes 1, and 18 on the Jub are used for the driving range.
